DATA DEFENDER powered by Lakelink

About us

The team that keeps Kenyan businesses online

Data Defender exists because most Kenyan SMEs don't have a "web person" — and shouldn't need one. A clinic, a law firm, a shop, a SACCO: they need a working presence and someone trustworthy keeping it that way.

Why we started

We kept meeting the same story: a business paid for a website years ago. The developer has moved on. The domain is registered in someone else's name, the renewal notice went to an inbox nobody checks, and the "contact us" form has been silently broken since the hosting changed. The internet presence exists — but nobody is defending it.

Data Defender was built to be the opposite of that story. We set things up properly — domain in your name, email that lands in inboxes, a site that loads fast on a phone in traffic on Mombasa Road — and then we stay. Renewals tracked, backups checked, updates applied, questions answered.

We're the digital-services venture of Lakelink, a licensed Kenyan telecoms operator. That relationship is why we can promise infrastructure-grade delivery to businesses that could never justify enterprise contracts: the licenses, the network experience and the operations discipline already exist — we bring them to the SME market.

Operating under Lakelink Telcon's licenses

  • Kenya Data Protection registration Office of the Data Protection Commissioner
  • Communications Authority of Kenya licensee Communications Authority of Kenya
  • ICT Authority accreditation ICT Authority of Kenya

Real registrations with real regulators — rare among web vendors, and exactly what you should expect from a company with "defender" in its name.

How we work

Three promises we can be held to

  • Operator-led delivery

The people who scope your project are the people who build and run it. No account managers relaying messages, no outsourcing chain — one team, accountable to you by name.

  • Prices on the page

Kenyan Shillings, published openly, confirmed in an itemised quote. If something costs more than the listed figure, you hear it from us before work starts — not on the invoice.

  • You own everything

Your domain is registered in your business's name. Your site, content and mailboxes are yours. Leaving us should be easy — that it rarely happens is the point.

The name

Why "defended" is the promise

Anyone can put a website online. The hard part — the part that decides whether your presence is an asset or a liability — is everything after: the renewal that must not lapse, the backup that must actually restore, the update that closes a hole before someone finds it, the search listing that keeps sending customers.

That ongoing work is invisible when it's done well, and catastrophic when it isn't. We named the company after it deliberately: it's the part of the job we refuse to treat as an afterthought.

Talk to the people who'll actually build it

No sales script. Describe your business and we'll tell you honestly what you need — and what you don't.
